Sun City is a resort, and it is priced like one. A lot of our guests want the Valley of Waves, the golf and the noise for a day - and then somewhere quiet and affordable to sleep. That is the twelve kilometres between us, and it takes about a quarter of an hour to drive.

The practical part

What the drive is actually like.

There is a shuttle from the estate to Sun City and back if you would rather not drive, or want a drink with dinner. If you do drive: the hotel sits on the R565 at Boshoek, turn right out of the gate and the road runs straight to Sun City - tar the whole way, no gravel, and no reason for a 4x4. Day visitors to Sun City buy a pass at the entrance; the Valley of Waves is sold separately, and both are cheaper midweek and out of school holidays.

Coming from Johannesburg or Pretoria you pass us before you reach Sun City, so you can drop your bags on the way in rather than doubling back.

Worth knowing before you budget for the Valley of Waves: there is a waterpark on this estate, with slides and a splash pool, and it is free for hotel guests. Plenty of families do the resort for one day and spend the rest here for nothing.

Pilanesberg National Park is eleven kilometres from the hotel - nearer than Sun City. It is a malaria-free Big Five reserve inside the crater of an extinct volcano, and you can self-drive it in an ordinary car or go out in an open vehicle at dawn.
